Did something really stupid and let my Nav run down to stars on Distance to empty yesterday: stuck in the middle of no-where so couldnt find a petrol station.

Travelled 11 miles to where the f***ing sat nav told me to go to esso, worrying I was about to completely break down and the petrol station no longer existed :?
After the poor thing did another mile it got some juice...
Started hearing some audible warnings and it just managed to get to the next petrol station...
Filled up 78.9 litres out of a possible 80

Just wondering as I am a new driver; it hasnt done any damage to it letting it go so empty has it?
It started up fine :?

Thanks anyone who can give me some reassurance to a brand new truck

The main cause for concern is that the filter may become blocked with any **** in the bottom of the tank, might be worth checking them. It shouldn't really be a problem on a new truck, but better safe than sorry!

The problem isn't dirt being sucked out of the tank as the position of the fuel intake inside the tank doesn't change. Whatever is down there will get sucked in no matter if the tank is full or not.

What can happen is air being sucked into the injection system, which usually requires a bleed of the high pressure system. It might also damage the pump and injectors if there is no protection against it running dry. But if it started up ok you didn't get to that point and everything should be fine.

mine normally gets to about 30 miles till empty then does not go any lower just has dots( I think) on the display, i then set the trip to zero and then do another 20 ish miles before i fill up??... :D
