thanks for the info
can i ask have you done this did you have the same problem im having?
and did it work for you? so does it sound like an injector to you then?
i have never used that injector cleaner before does it really work?
will not not do any damage put in it all in the filter?

yes will try that injector cleaner tomorrow
i hope it sorts it i dont fancy droping the sump off again
so from what im told is that once the bottom end has been upgraded
they dont go again??
As Chris has said there has not been a report of a 'modded' engine failing again.....and that's worldwide :!: :!:
Mine has covered 70,000 miles since the 'mod' and I've 'hammered' that engine to Southern Spain 6+ times with the revs at 3750-4250 for hours on end without any issue. If it were going to 'let go' it would've believe me :!:
Give the cleaner a try and if it's not successful I'd have a good listen with a scew driver and pin-point exactly where this noise is comming from :thumbright:
Could be any number of components causing this ie vac pump, loose bottom pulley and bare in mind these fuel pumps and injectors are mechanical and noisey in operation anyway.

Mate,
I wouldn't advise you to do it if it would cause damage.
Forte is one of the best available.
I have not had injector problems.
I do the above treatment every time I change the fuel filter.
When the smoke test for diesels first came into the MOT, a lot of the old heavy breathers failed, we used this method on them and they passed.
I also flush my engine with a pint of red diesel in the old oil running it for 10-15 minutes before dropping it out.
Sometimes the old ways are still the best.

yes i will try the cleaner.
you must have 100% trust in your engine.
i never go fast in it jut in case it goes bang
i was watching it running today and looking at the bottom pully
seemed to run true and didnt feel lose
it as if the cold weather last week made something go wrong
as i was running it every day some times 150 miles a day ever since i got it
never one problem with it straight after i did the upgrade it ran the same 100% spot on
i have done 6k since the upgrade. and i did the mod in september 2012
i just dont know what it can be.

your on the right forum mate, believe me the knowledge on the site is first class and spot on solid information from guys who know the truck inside out :thumbleft:

If you're happy with your standard of workmanship then I can't see it being anything to do with the bottom end.
I had to change my fairly new fuel filter on mine last week due to poor contaminated fuel (dirty, milky appearance within the filter) causing my motor to run very rough and it sounded like a 'bag o nails' on cold start up, so don't dismiss this possible cause of the noise

oh right well i changed the fuel filter but not on the last service.
it sounds daft i know but you just dont think it could down to a fuel filter!
i will try the diesel injector cleaner today with a new filter.
just looking in my service book i serviced it
25/8/12 i did everything even fuel filter at 87k
then at 89k with the engine upgrade as well that was 5/9/12
then again just now well 25/1/13 at 95k but i have not changed the fuel filter
on the last two services can the go wrong as its only been on for 6k it was a genuine filter?

How long after the last fuel fill up did it 'go wrong'.
We can look after our trucks and wrap them up in padded blankets, BUT, at the very next refuel we can put in contaminated, dirty or water infused diesel, this is totally out of our control.
There was an Asian run garage 8 miles from me (on the A30 Bagshot, keep away Woz!), a few years ago they started diluting diesel with parafin, they did this for a long time, but then got greedy and the parafin to diesel ratio kept increasing (along with the profit margins!) until cars started to conk out a few miles after refueling there, Trading Strandards got involved and so did the courts.
Take a sample from the filter housing and have a good look at it.

well i drained the fuel filter today
ready to fit the new one.
the fuel that was in the filter had like oil/milky stuff in it
a good 2 spoons full does anyone know what this is?
the noise is still there but its on and off now
when i started the truck up this morning i didnt here it once strange
after running it with that forte in 10 mins of 10 mins running i could still here it
but driving it home from the yard no noise. dove it in to the drive sat there reving it not high
no noise so will this forte take a bit to work? hoping it is this thats making the noise
but just to say when that noise is not there the engine sounds like new.

The milky residue is the result of diesel being mixed/contaminated with water. Keep your tank topped up and be prepared to change your fuel filter again.

It does sound like you're sorted, a result for Woz and Chris I reckon. :cheers2: with a little bit more luck your truck will settle down :awesomework

It just goes to show we need to do the simple stuff first.

i hope so do you think the noise will still be there til this stuff works?
so does it sound like injector or pump issue? as the noise is still there
will it settle down/
thanks to everyone so far for the advice very helpful site glad i joined

I said earlier a hosing injector would cause this noise  basically if you get water in the pump/ injector you will get noise.......fuel (basically oil) can condense down and be compressed so that it squirts through the injector tip and makes a spray pattern..........water does not compress :adminfinger it partially gets stuck and consequently makes a racket..........I am pretty sure thats what your hearing.

Keep going with the injector cleaner, it might take a while for it to work (using a few times) if it does not do the trick seek out a local diesel specialist that can ultrasonically clean your injectors. If you get really stuck I have an ultrasonic bath for cleaning carbs.....I could probably do them for you.

Re: navara d22 04 engine noise tick

yes thank you so much i will see how it goes
im hoping what i have done today will clear up soon
if the noise does not go away i will try record it
and put it on hear let you all here it it seems to go with the revs
what i did today after doing the forte when i could here the noise
is turn the truck off and straight back on again the noise went
some times it comes back some times it dont

there was a fair bit in that diesel from the filter today
i am just keeping my fingers crossed that noise goes away soon
you just would not think an injector could go tap tap tap
i found out about the fan belts on here tapping together
mine did this once or twice in the summer 2012
thats why i did the bottom end as i thought it was the shells.
it was a guy on here said put water on em it will go it did.

Hi every one well i still have that slight tap noise on and off every now and then
but i have been out today in the truck and used it as normal
this morning i towed 1 1/2 ton for 15 miles and and just finished work now
i have done 200 miles in it today drove like a dream i could here the noise
every now and them but not got any worse.
so will have to look into other things it can be
but is driving 100% like it always has just with that niggling noise on/off

so have you done the screwdriver/ probe trick yet and try to locate/ pinpoint the noise?

By doing this you could eliminate most all things straight away...........

I know you changed the belts, but have you gone back and re checked the belt tension?
