My Nav has covered 57,264 miles since July 5th without any problems, the Engine just gets better all the time. I ordered 4 Hilux trucks last month and we got the first last Friday. 900 miles later it was taken into the Dealers today with a Gearbox problem. All our other Navs have been faultless to date. My Sons Landcruiser is an unbelievable vehicle albeit a bit thirsty. We will see how the dealer handles the situation

Dont think its just the gearbox problem either, a couple of farmers round here have reported steering problems also.

The nav's arn't free from early problems either im afraid, one of our members had a timing chain snap in less that 1000 miles and needed a whole new engine :O, There's always going to be lemons among the heap, but one thing is for sure, The hilux's are way more reliable than the navara's, and that's coming from some one that has no intrest in the hilux's.

Re-phrase that to D22mk2's & D40's :thumbright:

the mk1 mk2 and mk3 hilux's are way more reliable that there alternative nav, I don't care what ya say, watch the top gear hilux special and tell me a mk1 would survive that lol.

I have watched it, many times. I love that truck, i once owned a 'E' reg, 1988 4x2 Hilux, stonking motor, i traded it in for my first D21.

great trucks, but part of the reason for their reliability is that they are so basic that there is alot less to go wrong, no timing chain and very conservative power out put's, the 3.0 hilux puts on less bhp and alot less torque than the nav which came out a year earlier. virtually no extra electronics on the mk1's.

I had an 86 L200, it was a very reliable motor, I bought it with over 100k on it put another 50-60k on it before I sold it to a farmer because it had become useless for towing as the chassis had rotted at the backend where the towbar bolted on.
It only got brake shoes and pads and handbrake cables and a set of Monroe shocks when I bought it and it got a balljoint for an mot once.
At the time I,d have rated it a superior truck to the D21s and Hilux's my mates had and it was easier on juice too.
Before I bought it it had belonged to a guy that had given it an extremely hard time and had carried 5 1/2 foot digger buckets in the back of the truck and had battered the inner rear arches completely out of shape.

I'd agree the late 80's and early 90's mitsi's where very very reliable, my 97 shogun was sold driving perfect with 203k miles, and it got dogs abuse every day when i owned it from 150 to 203k. Had it's oil changed twice I think in that period and it once ran out of oil.

That Top Gear Hilux didn't really survive, they just pretended. The chassis has broken for a start...

and it was constantly being repaired, Ive seen Discos full of water re-started after an hour, nothing special there

When i look into getting myself a second hand truck i put the Hilux and Nav against another.

A Hilux in my price range would be a 2006 singel cab, 120hp, manual clima controll, and el windows. thats it!
Test drived it and i felt like a horse rider. Ended up gettin a comfy Nav kingcab, 174hp that goes like sting and the LE package (multi func st.weel, CC, auto dim mirror) to the standard stuff like ECC, el window..

Hilux is for the contracor abusing it and give rats ass about comfort as long as it starts, dosent need to reach 60mph and pull trailer constant. Got the heater stuck on warm and just opens the windows a little when gets to March.. Service not needed..

Nav is for those who need a truck that can take you 30miles without getting bruces on you'r ass, for a wedding, in a snowstorm and race it back home with a trailer hooked up to it. Service needed...

Toyota dealer is sorting out the problem without any fuss, cant apologize enough.Nissan made so much fuss over paint finnish coming off of Auto gearlever in my Nav I bought 4 Hilux trucks instead of more Navs, IDIOTS !. Having had many many Hilux and Landcruisers over the years I still rate my 190 Nav the best overall. Worst trucks we ever had ? L200s

We have a fleet of Pick-ups in work, comprising Hilux 3.0D4D Invincibles, Navs (Outlaw and Aventura), and L200s (Warrior and Barbarian), and they all get pretty abused (apart from my Nav). To be fair, all have been pretty good considering. One of the Navs had a new clutch at 70k miles, the Hiluxs have mainly just consumable service items, and the L200s have all worked like donkeys (except the bosses Barbarian cos he just keeps crashing it). Some of the lads swear by the Navs, some prefer the HiLuxs, and although no-one likes the look of the L200s, most think they drive really well.
