Hi guys and girls, am fairly new to the forum so firstly hello to you all. Been scanning through for a while and there's always tonnes of useful info and it usually come's with good humor, so top effort :rockon

I have a 2009 D40 double cab in shiny grey :) Its been great apart from one thing! It has been back to the garage under warranty 3 times in three months for the rear seal leaking (where the prop-shaft goes into the rear transfer box).

They did it the first time and it leaked two days later, told them to clean the transfer box breather as it may be blocked, they assured me they did that, and replaced the seal, that lasted about 4 weeks. After a run to Cheshire and back(only live in Manchester so its not a massive trek) happened to check the seal and yep leaking again.

It is now back on the drive, problem is I work offshore so haven't seen it yet, I know there is a lot of info regarding this topic and it seems a major fault/f***-up by Nissan. Is there any way to fix this problem for good, either with an aftermarket replacement seal, as sticking a new seal in every month will be a real pain the a**e.

Anyhow rant over and cheers for any advice you have :thumbright:

Welcome aboard :cheers2:
I've just discovered mine leaking again. I'll be getting two aftermarket seals this time and trying them.
Old mechanics trick, if it'll take two seals, bang two in.
In your case, such regular seal failure obviously points to other issues..
Blocked breather, overfilled, corrosion on shaft sleeve or bearing failure causing the seal to wear.

guys cheers for response.

They checked and cleaned the breather the second time it went in and would hope they would know how and to what level to fill a transfer box to, since it returning (after the second seal)I have probably cover 200 miles max in the truck. If we have a bearing failure would that make a hole heap of noise and vibrations etc, because it feels fine when driving.

I will have a look at the flange connecting to the prop-shaft when I get back home, at least there is plenty of room to crawl under a D40 and have a look, tell me how the two seal trick works, cause if this goes again I'm seriously considering sending the damn thing back and arguing for my cash back (not fit for purpose and incompetent meccy's and all that). Which is a shame cause I really like the D40 :)

hey every one who's either responded or just had a nosy at the post.

The truck has been returned around three weeks ago, the MD of the company got involved and the long and short of it was the flange ended up having wear. This was taking the seals out.

The truck has now had a proper run and have put some serious miles on it, not a drop of oil has come out of the transfer box....so now fixed :)

Next question....how easy is it to blank the EGR valve and is there any benefits from doing it?

There is a load of info about it on here but it is a bit spread about, it is well worth doing. This link is really good at explaining it all.

If you are tight like me you could always make your own blank.
