hi all, did a oil change on my truck yesterday, due one anyway and oil was very black filter was a bit leaky but garage was useless, everything went ok apart from filter annoying to get off, new one from milners on it but it still leaks a bit, am sure that the seal in the right place and i only nipped it up so dout it on to tight, anybody got any tips for it being put on? its in the right place apart from fitting it a bit looser to it aint as squashed am at a loss what i can do apart from go nissian and get a genuine filter to see if quality any better with that.

Also my lovley fresh oil is black already, it was owned by a farmer before i got it so dout it was changed that often are there any engine flush type things that are safe with these engine or just keep on top of oil changes and hope that clears it up a bit?

When you take the housing off, see if its cracked. If not then make sure the 'o' ring is in its groove proper and try nipping it up a tad more.

Your oil will go black quite quick, lack of changes and its a diesel will make it worse. If your really worried give it another flush.

Thanks guys

I had a similar problem with a leak from my oil filter not long after i got my truck, just got a new filter, which comes with a new o' ring, run the vehicle up. so it was nice and warm, (changed the oil and the filter), gave the cap a good clean, checked the threads on the cap and housing, put the new o' ring in some new oil, then applied it to the cap. put some new oil on the threads and screwed it down by hand, then just nipped it. It would be very easy to over tighten the cap and put a crack in it. Youre right its not a very good design, there are similar filters on a lot of vehicles nowadays, and they all suffer broken or cracked caps due to overtightening.

I use Forte about every third change, for the other 2, I put about 1 pint of diesel into the oil and let it fast idle for 5-10 mins, washes out most of the muck, and the new oil stays clean quite a long time afterwards.

Agree with Chris :thumbleft:
I also put in about a pint of diesel and run mine for 5-10 mins prior to dumping the engine oil. A bit 'old school' but this way I know all the small parts have been flushed through
BTW, your EGR needs to be blanked off, otherwise you're wasting your time :!:
