Hi,
10 year old D40, 90K miles and getting P0 437: Catalyst Temperature Sensor Low Input Bank 2 Sensor 1.

Both engine and DPF lights came on. As I was pulling a 4 ton trailer up the Pyrenees, doing 4K revs on and off I'm thinking it's not the DPF. Got home OK, no real effect on the Navara except the odd puff of black smoke when changing gear (auto) and then the warning lights go out. Now 2 weeks later and they're back on.
Local garage think that the DPF didn't regenerate correctly? Or is it an EGR (not blanked) fault? Or in fact a failure of what it says, sensor knackered?
What do you guys reckon?

It is far more likely to be problem with the cat than the DPF or EGR.

So likely as not either the 02 sensor is gone or the cat needs replacing.

Don't forget the DPF will swallow up most of the smoke if there is a problem.

I am sorry to hear of the problems - I tow too, so I know it's a pain, and my time will surely come for DPF issues :(

Could be a sensor (hopefully) or DPF - I'm no expert. I think if the EGR had problems, like being stuck part-open (which could in itself help clog a DPF and make the engine run cooler) you'd have noticed a big performance drop, smoke etc. Have you tried the usual high speed run to get a regen going ? (I assume it must be a 2.5 engine, so there is advice elsewhere on this forum for regens).

I realize you have other thing to think about right now, but can I ask if your truck has ever been chipped or re-mapped, or ever run using engine oil that was not low-SAPS? This seems to affect 'heavy towers' more than most. Also, do you use standard diesel or super diesel fuel?
