The original 2005 engine was replaced in 2009 so hopefully will be a 'fixed' engine but I want to check the engine number.

Where is it?

I have taken some photos of the rough area I think it should be in but a bit like the g-spot, I hae yet to find it

Thanks Andy - I have managed to find it from your pictures.

For the record, it is here

Just above the round engine plug and behind/below the golden looking bit.

I needed to rub sand paper on the block and then squirt with WD40 to be able to see any lettering.

Best done with a bright torch either pointing down from above or up from below depending on where you can fit it.

The engines of doom are YD25DDTi 219661 and lower. My engine is TD25 26992?.

I think I am in the clear!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your number starts with YD25, if the following number ends in A it means it is a Nissan replacement unit, just like Ian's 55 plate model....... which went bang.

I'll PM Ian and see if he still has his old engine number :thumbright:

It is all a bit of a balancing act. Do you ignore it and carry on or get the bottom end fixed to make sure you've got the bullet proof engine like this member? viewtopic.php?f=1&t=95322

found it Keith :partycheer: my engine No was 160507A but bear in mind that this is a replacement engine that said mine was a factory gate sale and this was AFTER the D22 was freely on sale in the UK, as everyone wanted the new D40, and that went bang in less than 32000 miles, I'm not a gambling man but if I were I would bet that my original engine was a lot newer than the one you have installed, before you think you're in the clear find out if the up grade has been done as that is the ONLY way that you will be in the clear, i was like you i too thought as that mine was such a late registration it would be OK, i now know different and I'm about ÂŁ2500 lighter in the pocket and that is without any labour charge (a big thanks to Keith for that) what I'm trying to say is don't let the fact that it was one of the last ones into the UK fool you, if it's NOT one of the ones fitted with the down graded D40 engine then it's not safe no matter how hard you wish, I know! been there, done that and got the Billcar engine.

From memory!
There was an alternative site to this when D22 engines started exploding called Knackered Navara.
They claimed to be experts on these engines, BUT virtually cut and pasted all I wrote up on here and posted on this site (KN) as 'the answer.
I believe this so called 'safe engine number' came from this site (KN), a representative of this site claimed to have this in writing from Nissan UK.
I contacted them and asked for a copy of the letter.
Surprise surprise, NOTHING ever appeared despite several follow up contacts.
Hardly surprising as Nissan have NEVER acknowledged the problem exists, bar extending the warranty period.
Personally I would not regard this number as gospel and verse, the letter may or may not exist, Nissan UK would not confirm the same to me when I wrote to them.
I think a register of blown up engine numbers may be of benefit, we could possibly work out an approximate 'safe engine' production sequence?
So to get back to your problem, WHEN was the engine made?
Impossible to know for sure, but an age gap of 4 years and the replacement date of 2009, IS well past the date Nissan could no longer deny the problem.
You could ask a question e.g. what is the lastest engine number to have suffered the catastrophe?

PS
I have just checked up on KN and the 'safe engine' number confirmation has been removed, although the safe engine number is repeated anecdotally.
