Hi everyone,

I’ve just acquired a 2006 d22 3.0

It runs really smooth BUT lacks a lot of power after 2500rpm.

This is in every gear and it struggles to hit 100kmh.

After spending many hours on the forums, I have tried the following suggestions.

New Fuel Filter
All fuel lines have been primed and are definitly free from air
Installed a new Neutral switch
EGR blocked off
I have checked every single hose and cannot find an issue.

Any help will be much appreciated.
One thing worth mentioning is, I was cruising in 3rd gear and holding flat (recommended to blow out crud)
It was doing its usual gutless effort and climbing slowly, once I hit around 3000rpm, I felt the turbo kick in and the car took off with a lot of power.

Frustratingly I have not been able to replicate this. But 100% it was the turbo kicking in.

Not so much to go wrong with these, although the Patrol owners do blow them regularly, guessing the problem was why the vehicle was for sale?

The fuel pump is the problem area with these engines, but as you suggest it may be a turbo/wastegate/intake pipe problem.
Have you fitted a boost gauge? Not too much money to buy one.

no I haven’t got a boost gauge, I have a boost sensor switchin the post, gonna change that out and if the problem is still there I will grab a gauge.

It would also be worth your while having a browse through the patrol forums. Your engine is much more common in the patrol.

So, I bought a new genuine boost sensor and it made no difference to my issue.
Still really slow and struggles to hit 100kmh

I then installed a boost gauge, I noticed im only getting 5-6 psi when I rev in neutral to around 4500rpm. That can’t be normal????

I’m now out of ideas, any help will be appreciated.

Just drove back a 2006 Navara, but noticed the same problem in regards to power as above. Putting it down to Turbo as I can hear it spooling really high trying to build up boost, but nothing massive comes from it. Hitting 110km/hr, but struggled on the hills a bit

Check the Neutral position sensor.
Start the car. Handbrake on, clutch in.
Engage the Heat function.
In neutral, should rev up to 1200-ish.
Engage gears in turn, when gears are engaged, the revs SHOULD drop to idle.
If they don't drop, you will be losing power in that gear, as the car thinks it is in neutral.
Might need to wiggle the stick to replicate intermittent faults.
Is a $30 part and easily replaced.
