Having a 54 plate kingcab been hearing all the stories about the big ends going, wish i had found this site before , having taken the engine out and finding number 4 bearing gone and 2 & 3 had picked up it looked fairly good new bearings and crankgrind.

Then found out my crank could not be reground, so it was then a costing exercise new crank and bearings etc or a recon engine, ended up taking the plunge with recon ( functionally new ) engine , all down to time need it to get to work.

Got me wondering which way people have gone ?

Thought i had gone the right way , 6 months unlimited milage sounds good, the new sump turned up with 3 holes that had been welded :pale: started to have a closer look cam chain
guides had more wear than my 68000 mile ones :x after a phone call and being promised a new sump and guides will wait and see .

HI
Just got my 04 outlaw back from a firm called Billcars that sorted my engine out, booked it in to get the bearings and bolts changed, turned out the truck had a reconed engine in it when i bought it and the crank had been ground and was showing wear so i went with a new crank, timing chain, head gasket and oil pick up mod, whilst my truck was there they had two other navaras in with noisy big ends that had reground cranks.it seems that there is quite a lot of reconed engines out there that are not lasting very long.
cheers

Well still waiting for the replacement parts for the functionally new yd25 , after a week and several heated phone calls i am really thinking about sending it back :x says he has had them sent to me direct from a stealership , funny on their advert says they buy direct from japan . Last phone call was a classic said he gave me orthorisation to go to my stealership and buy the parts then would send me the money back lol told him were to stick his orthorisation. I really feel like naming the company but will wait and see if the parts come tuesday

Well wednesday and still no parts ,plenty of phone calls aked who they had been sent with and the tracking number which on monday told me he had , that was at midday still waiting :x Ring the office and get told to ring his mobile dosnt answer and cant leave a message because its full :x :x :x :x
Having a real hard think about sending it back, things he has said contradicts what it says in the advert or what he has said a previous day. To me new means new not used and the holes welded up ok it might be pressure tested and ok but its not NEW as stated in the advert.
This company has an advert on ebay and i would hate anyone who has had their engine go have the problems i have had so UK Parts in west bromwich get a big black mark from me , i did not buy it from ebay i wish i had i could then leave some neg feed back
Next step a phone call to my credit card company , then may be trading standards watch this space maybe they will be here thursday :pork: ( nearly a flying pig)

Why can't your crank be re ground??.

Other have had this done! :)
I asked that same question to Dave at billcar and this is what he told me he found after having a crank tested.

Now I'm not an engineer but do now a bit, so if I wrong then please feel free to correct me :!:

The YD25 crack is not forged like other cranks, Nissan induction harden the journals that will receive the ware (please see link for info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Induction_hardening) which would be fine if the bearings didn't fail.
And hears the problem induction hardening makes the surface very hard, but only the surface to approximately .25mm. so if you have a reground to .25mm your pushing your luck, past that to .5mm like mine would have to be and your definitely down to the cast steel, and this will ware very quick, I have seen people reporting failures as soon as 1000 miles after the rebuild.

The cranks that are being sold at billcar are forged steel in the traditional way so in the future these could be reground

Hope that answers your question :D

Dave at billcar put me one of these German jobbies in. Forged steel no soft centres :) so even if I were to do hundreds of thousands of miles I could get this one reground in the future! Truck will probably disintegrate before then though
