Hi guys
Have a whistling noise coming from engine when idling, as soon as I rev up slightly the noise dissapears and then appears again when I let it idle again. I have a 57 plate navara aventura d40. This happens whether engine is hot or cold. Anybody had this problem
Thanks

Does it carry on for a few seconds after you turn it off. I had a similar problem and thought it was coming from the turbo. Turned out to be the pulley on the alternator. Its got some sort of clutch assembly on it. Can't remember the exact name but anyway. That was it. The bearings go in it.

Before you start to undo anything, note and possibly photograph the route of the serpentine belt. You'll never remember its route afterwards

The tensioner is held on with a bolt through the centre of the bearing. Slacken this but not completely. Once it is slack, slacken the belt adjustment with the top adjuster bolt. Once the belt is slack you can completely remove the centre bolt and the adjuster.

I believe it is possible to change the bearing at a much lower cost than a complete replacement of the adjuster. viewtopic.php?f=14&t=22388&hilit=alternator+Bearing
