They have found a leak on the sprayer system, but even so I find it had to believe the amount lost in 4500 miles basically 30 litres plus.

Also had the permanent warning low ab-blue countdown from 200 miles come on, which is reassuring I suppose something works

My warning came on after 3500 miles, took 9 liters to fill so if it holds 17ltrs? ir still had 8 ltr's in it.Does this sound correct?
I bought 10 ltrs from morrisons garage for ÂŁ11.

I suppose it does, 8 litres would get you around another 3000+ miles. A lot better than I've had, but still waiting for parts to come in to fix my ad-blue issue !!!

This morning I was clay shooting with a petro chemist specialising in auto fuels, the talk got around to Ad-Blue.
As you know the active ingredient is urea, he told me that to be effective in a diesel engine neat urea needs to be injected at a rate of 7 grams per litre of fuel.
As commercially available, 'ready to use', Ad-Blue is pre-diluted at a 20% rate, to be effective Ad-Blue needs to be injected at a rate of 35 grams per litre of fuel.
Or 1 litre of Ad-Blue for every 28 litres of diesel.
No wonder you are using so much!

6800 miles in now and 55l of adblue, at this rate i am going to buy an IBC, mount it in the bed and just have a pipe down on drip feed!!

Most of our new forestry harvesting machines use adblue, while I was filling up my truck in the wood today the forwarder driver said that when he is carrying timber uphill (machine working harder) there is a considerable difference in the amount he uses without the same correlation in l/hour for diesel.

I will never be accused of having a soft right foot, but i dont tow anything and Welsh country roads are not exactly race tracks. I still get 34ish mpg so I cant be driving it that hard?

Think you need to buy shares in the stuff too. 123 miles to a Litre or 2000ish Miles to a tank of the stuff I would guess you have an issue somewhere.

That seems a long way from what Nissan are quoting, someone else on this topic took theirs back to nissan and found a leak on the adblu system.

My NP300 was delivered with 500 miles on the clock, a couple weeks after delivery I received the AdBlue warning light so purchased 10l and filled it up. I'm just shy of 2400 miles on the clock and its on again!
My mate has a Mercedes and the computer display allows you to select AdBlue which shows amount in tank and expected mileage, he had 17000 miles to go before he needed to top up.
My NP300 is just road driven around 50-60mph, no hard acceleration etc
This is extremely poor consumption. Has anyone had luck with a dealer adjusting or fixing consumption?

On the subject of AdBlue I think I just found the most expensive stuff ever!
Just walked into a garage who's charging ÂŁ25 for 4 litres!!!

There is another post on here from a NP300 owner who had a physical leak from new, he was using bucket loads also.

Don't think it's a leak ?
Purchased 14 litres of AdBlue today and it only took about 8 litres before it was full! Suspect it might be a faulty gauge. Will contact the dealer to check.

Well 300 miles on the clock and my Adblue warning comes up, guess they didn't top it up during the PDI (Washer wasn't filled when we collected sales wasn't impressed then and took it back to the workshop to be sorted), back to the garage and going to make them check all fluid levels

Well today the light came on again at 3300 miles and we filled it up with around 9 litres, so its looking at 3l\1000miles, so for mine comes in at range of 5600miles a tank. I would say for its driving profile that would be about what I expected. Interestingly mechanic at our dealer did say they were surprised it had lasted so long, so seems they expect much shorter range.

Didn't know what AdBlue was or what it was used for until I looked it up.

I note that it is basically formed by 'hydrolising automotive urea'.

Couldn't one just **** in the tank?!

as a comparison,my mate has a citroen Picasso c4 with a 17 litre adblue tank,at 12.300 miles, the low tank light came on.the computer read that after 1500 miles, the vehicle won`t start, the book says that the low tank light will come on at 12,500.pretty damn accurate I thought, glad I don`t have an adblue tank on my d40.

Adblue after 1350 miles

My Tekna Auto is telling me to fill up the Adblue after just 1350 miles.

I've driven it pretty hard during that time, towing mainly and getting around 20-24mpg.

Should I get onto the dealer about it or do I just need to accept it uses shed loads more than it should (just like it's fuel consumption! :frown2:) and top it up??

Whatever else is happening, it seems reasonable to assume AdBlue consumption ought to track fuel consumption to some degree....

Noticing the AdBlue consumption in mine, too.

What's worse is that it's supposed to reduce emissions, but all it does it take them out of towns and spit out more (overall) when you're on the motorway.

I've just filled mine up for the fourth time now at 10l per time. I've done just shy of 9000 miles. That's nowhere near the quoted "7125 miles per tank (17l)".

I did pop into the local dealer and whinge but they said "it was normal and would vary with cold temperatures, short distance and long distance journeys". So basically, if I drive my car, it'll use more than the quoted amount.

Should I go and argue with a different dealer, see if they're more helpful? Or perhaps call Nissan Customer Services?

AdBlu does reduce NOx emissions, and many Euro 6 diesels won't reach that standard without it.... What exactly is "being spit out more" ? Just curious as to the science....
