Good day Gents. While towing my engin light came on - 2nd time now. It goes away with a reset and doesnt show up on any daily runs. Today I recorded the flashes as 8 flashes followed by 10 flashes followed by 5 flashes.

I cant find the fault code , can anyone help?

Cheers

That's not a proper code, I always struggled with the flashes.

I suggest it is much easier to buy a Bluetooth obd dongle that you can use with your android phone. (Or WiFi dongle for Apple)

They are pretty cheap about 10£/€ over here, next day from Amazon.

You could try, bear in mind they come in fours, this post might help

Are the rear brake lights working?

If yes, ignore the code.

If no, the brake light switch needs replacing or repositioning
Hi. This is turning out to be a headache for me... Some ideas/ afvise would be highly appreciated.

I got a new switch - replaced it. No stop lights.
Check the fuse - fried fuse (10A inside the cabin)
And it keeps frying the fuse regardless if I have the old / new switch in...

Opened both rear brake housings - no open wires.

Because I launch the boat with it - I checked the wiring to the trailor plug - looks good. For good meassure I disconnected it. Yet it stil burns the fuses.

Any ideas where to look for the problem?

A couple of thoughts

Have you tried removing both brake light bulbs? Sometimes they can go faulty.

The towing electrics. Are they wired in using a dedicated kit (plugged in on socket at rear left corner under the bumper)?
Or are they wired in by connecting wires directly to the bulb connectors in the rear light units?
The second method is often a problem.

Going to change the bulbs now.
The towing electrics plug into the system with a plug. I disconnected it there. Same story.

Ok seems to be the towing electrics who in turn fried the globes.

Replaced the globes... lights came on... fuse blown....

Then back to disconnecting the towing electrics... no lights.... ( this idiot forgot to change the fuse)

New fuse... and brakes are back.

Will replace the towing electrics...

Going in circles chasing ones own tail...
